It’s like the A-team van only a bit funkier!

May 7, 2008

According to research, White van man is no longer satisfied with just a plain white van.  Vans that are attracting higher bids at second hand auction are those with metallic paint, climate control and electric seats were attracting bids proportionally higher than the cost of their additions.

There are a number of upgrades available and it would seem that van drivers are no longer content to be driving a ‘working vehicle’; they now want it to make a statement about them.

It’s like the A-team van only a bit funkier!

The Commercial Vehicle market tends to follow the lead of the car market and as car buyers become more demanding about the finish of their cars so the Commercial Vehicle market will follow.  The fact that people with upgraded vans can enhance their vehicles safe in the knowledge that the cost of the upgrade will be offset by the rise in value of the van makes them more likely to upgrade.

It is also understandable that as people are more likely to purchase what could be described as a work sized vehicle for the home transport; MPVs, 4X4 and people carriers are all bigger than traditional cars, they are less likely to view the size of their van as something out of the ordinary.  Van drivers also want to turn up for their jobs with a certain ‘Kerb Appeal’, and having a van that is well finished certainly contributes to this.  It’s also easier to afford if you don’t have the cost of running another car!

The research doesn’t document whether they take better care of their upgraded vans.  So when a red, white and blue van with climate control and alloy wheels cuts you up at the lights, don’t be surprised.

Mechanics - When do car tyres need replacing?

It is an EU requirement that there are 6 to 8 tread wear bars on all vehicle tyres (except tractors).

Your tyres are one of the most important parts of your car, make sure they're right for the job.
