Britain's car buying habits are changing

April 29, 2008

Britain’s car buying taste is changing, at least that’s what the recent traffic and sales records of justgoodcars.com would indicate.  The website is an on-line resource that enables people to sell their cars free of charge and as such they are able to offer detailed data and information about not only buying habits but what people are looking at too.

The findings indicate that smaller, more efficient cars with smaller engines and ticket prices such as the Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris, Citroën models, the Peugeot 107 and Volkswagen Polo are being searched for much more than the same time last year.

Britain's car buying habits are changing

Andrew Sobell, Sales and Marketing Director for JustGoodCars.com said “Times are changing, consumers are clearly looking to downsize".  "Surprisingly, hybrid vehicles do not appear to be high on the current desirability list. Petrol models are also searched for more than Diesel models.”

In addition to the current downsizing evidence there is also evidence of more luxury vehicles being put on the market, this is perhaps more evidence of the desire to down size.

“With traffic to the site building steadily it will be interesting to see how UK car buyers’ habits change in this increasingly fickle financial climate,” commented Andrew. “Running a car for many is a necessity, not a luxury, especially for families and those living in rural areas. Consumers are now paying £1.08 per litre for unleaded fuel and £1.17 for Diesel against 42p for unleaded and 40p for Diesel in 1990. We can see that small cars are going to be very desirable. I know I think about it every time I visit a fuel station.”

Mechanics - When do car tyres need replacing?

It is an EU requirement that there are 6 to 8 tread wear bars on all vehicle tyres (except tractors).
