Suits you sir, Chevrolet opens worlds first car fitting room

April 14, 2008

Chevrolet is opening the world’s first car fitting room in South London, where drivers can see how they look in their new car, just like you’d try on some new clothes.

Chevrolet carried out a survey that revealed three out of four (72 per cent) of drivers said they regard their car as a status symbol – wanting other drivers to view it as a reflection of their personality and success – yet 95 per cent admit they have no idea what they actually look like behind the wheel.

Suits you sir, Chevrolet opens worlds first car fitting room

Enter the revolutionary car “fitting room”, and revolutionary really is the word. You drive in behind some huge curtains and onto a revolving centre circle surrounded by mirrors. A remote-control handset allows the driver to rotate the car to get a 360 degree view of what they look like behind the wheel.

Nicky Hambleton-Jones, presenter of Channel 4’s makeover show 10 Years Younger, commented:
“You wouldn’t dream of buying a dress or suit without trying it on first so why should it be any different when it comes to buying a car – after all you never know who might pull up next to you at the lights.  Most people have no idea what they actually look like behind the wheel, but seeing as the car is an expression of your personality, it’s important to make sure you get the model that complements your style.  Well done Chevrolet for creating the first drive-in fitting room letting us literally try on our cars – and bringing a much needed touch of glamour to forecourts.”

It all sounds like a lot of fun, but if you’re sitting in a Chevrolet, I can tell you what you’ll look like already...

Mechanics - When do car tyres need replacing?

It is an EU requirement that there are 6 to 8 tread wear bars on all vehicle tyres (except tractors).

Your tyres are one of the most important parts of your car, make sure they're right for the job.
