iPhone app takes bite out of Congestion Charge.

July 21, 2009

Fleet tracking technology providers Auto Alert have come up with a very smart little gadget that the general public can use to save money.

They have developed a congestion charge tracking application that you can download to your iPhone.

iPhone app takes bite out of Congestion Charge.

The clever piece of software notifies the driver when they enter and leave the zone and even features the ability to pay live via the phone.  If you forget to pay it will remind you at a time pre set by you.

There is a charge for this service, it’s a £5 monthly subscription, but given that the charge of a ticket is £120 (£60 if you pay within 14 days), if it saves just one ticket then the application will have paid for itself for a year with that saving.

You can even cancel the subscription if you’re not planning to go anywhere near the zone, or are going on holiday.

The charge is for the reminder system, so you can use the system to see if you’re in the zone and pay, but you won’t get the reminders to pay the charge via text message.

For the time being the only congestion charge zone covered is London, but there are plans to offer the same service for Milan.  Once they have New York covered you'll be able to get alerts for each of your homes!

With the iPhone on your dashboard you need never fall foul of the Con Charge again!
