The Paris motor show goes green

September 5, 2008

Mazda and Citroen are both using the Paris Motor show next month to unveil new sleek, green concept cars.

Mazda are looking to unveil their Kiyora, a lightweight, next generation, urban compact concept car.  The name Kiyora translates to ‘clean and pure’ in Japanese and the car aims to represents the harmony between driving pleasure, environmental and safety features.  This we are told is in line with Mazda’s long-term technology development vision, dubbed “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom”?

The Kiyora is joined by Citroen’s Hypnos, which is looking to cast a spell over the local crowd.  Like the Mazda, the new Citroen looks to offer motoring with a minimal environmental impact.  The 200 hp hybrid engine weighs in with low fuel consumption and emissions (60+mpg and 120g/km of CO2), figures, without much compromise on it’s performance.

Both cars boast a sleek blend of metal and glass that boast aerodynamics that will cut through the air like a teardrop falling from the nose of an Oscar winner, mid speech.  The Citroen has a more practical look, while the Mazda presents large expanses of glass, really emphasising the aquatic feel of the car.  It almost looks as if it will pour off the page if you don’t shut the brochure softly enough.

At this point neither manufacturers have made any noises about production of the cars, so don't expect anything for a couple of years at least.  But with the heavy investments being made in hydrogen and hybrid technologies from the majority of car makers globally, the future's bright, the futures green.

Mechanics - When do car tyres need replacing?

It is an EU requirement that there are 6 to 8 tread wear bars on all vehicle tyres (except tractors).
