The Seat Ibiza has been with us since 1993 and has consistently given performance and enjoyment above it's ticket price. Like most of the Seat range there are engine options to thrill and excite the driver combined with the VW quality build and great road holding.
As you approach the Ibiza you're struck with the economy of size that it presents and as a member of the over six foot club I was somewhat apprehensive on the levels of comfort that would be presented within. I was pleasantly surprised on both the level of head room and the comfort of the seat. I don't think that my driving position offered much rear legroom for any but the very young but I didn't have anyone else in the car so could enjoy the front legroom with impunity. The seats are comfortable and firm. They are not especially suited to all day driving but as long as you take a break every few hours long journeys shouldn't be a problem. The controls are all easy to use and logical. The ergonomics of the car are reassuring. Nothing needs more than the minimum of attention to operate. The headroom isn't as generous in the back and with the front seats forward the legroom is somewhat frugal but with a little give and take four adults can travel in reasonable comfort.
The engines are for the most part great and are all capable of powering the supermini in any situation. Motorway miles are unflustered and overtaking is something that can be embarked upon with confidence. The 1.4 petrol options lack a little pulling power but the bigger petrol and all of the diesel options are really pokey and fun to drive. The Cupra and FR versions offer 0-60 in seven and eight second respectively, with top speeds in the mid 140 mph and 130 mph range.
The handling is pretty good with taught suspension and tight, precise steering. The suspension is set up a little too hard to really describe the ride as comfortable but does qualify the handling as confident.
Seat's reputation has been built on driving rather than travelling but that's what Seat are all about, they offer good quality, sporty cars at an affordable price. They are brimming over with quality VW parts and offer a solid, well made feel when behind the wheel, certainly a lot of car for the money.
