Honda FR-V Hatchback 2004 - Present

The Honda FR-V gives another great example of new cars to fill gaps between other car classes. The FR-v bridges the gap between the Small family car and an MPV. Cleverly offering two rows of three seats to accommodate 6 people if your family has expanded but your garage hasn't the room to.

Inside the FR-V the quality feel of the Accord has been extended to it's newer stable mate making a pleasing ride for all of the occupants. The seats are comfortable enough for long journeys if required but the car has a light enough feel to act as a run-around in town. The middle seats front and back cleverly slides back and forward to create legroom for all occupants but this is dependant on having the room in the boot. The headroom is good and makes the cabin feel deceptively big.

On the road the FR-V feels like a small family hatchback which makes for an effortless and pleasing drive. It has a low centre of gravity that adds to the feeling of stability on the road. It's not quite as agile as some of it's rivals but really that's being pedantic as it's more than able to provide enough stability when driving.

Powered by a choice of the extremely effective VTEC petrol engines , which all offer good performance and can return prudent consumption figures. The best figures are top speed of 120 mph and just sub 10 seconds 0-60, with 44 mpg economy.  That said there is not a great deal to chose from the available options to it's going to be a matter of personal choice and budget.

There are good levels of equipment from the start point so is really is down to budget and preference but with a 6k gap from bottom to top it's worth looking to upgrades as deal clinchers. The Honda FR-V does what most Honda's do best, in that it fills a space in the market, without any fuss and it does so very effectively. It's not going to win any awards for excitement but that's not what it sets out to do. It's a great family car and will no doubt give lots of trouble, fuss free miles to the families that own it.
