When Toyota Launched the Yaris in 1999 it gave the established supermini manufacturers sleepless nights. The Yaris came with superb build quality great economy and Toyota's reputation for reliability.
Throughout the range the engines are equipped for the job. The 1.0 model is not really equipped for the motorway but has enough poke for town. The 1.3 and 1.5 are fun to drive with ample poke for most drivers and offer great fuel figures. The 1.4 D-4D diesel is the most frugal returning a combined fuel consumption of more than 62 mpg.
As you'd expect from a supermini, the handling is good and the car is easy to drive with precise electronically assisted steering transmitting a natural road feel and pert response. The suspension is set up to be comfortable rather than race worthy but that gives a good ride for both driver and passengers alike.
Inside the car there is a surprising amount of room for the driver and a decent amount of legroom in the back, enough for 3 adults, which is more than any of it's rivals. Headroom is also good both front and back with good views for driver and passenger alike. The boot space is again well thought out with a false floor covering the bulk of the boot, which offers a nice surprise after first encountering what looks like a small space.
The Toyota Yaris does everything really well and offers a lot of motoring for such a small car and more importantly a small amount of money.
