Since it's launch in 1993 the Punto has been popular in the UK small car market. The Punto Grande saw the body size stretched by 6 inches to give a bit more room within and drafted in Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Maserati designer, to style it and the result is a small car with big-car looks. The big looks do translate to big room at the front of the car but the legroom in the back is still really designed for small children, butl you don't get a super mini for it's rear legroom.
The Punto represents a nice drive and is light and agile on the streets, not showing any extra wieght acheiving the 5 star NCAP safety rating it was awarded in 2006. The City setting offers extra light steering at parking speeds.
The various engines range between 1.2 and 1.4 petrol, and 1.3 and 1.9litre diesels. There's a 5 speed box for the petrol and 6 speed for their diesel equivalents. The 1.9 multijet offers the best performance with a top speed of 124 mph and 130 bhp.
The Punto does everything you expect form a supermini, it's fun to drive and great around town witout being too exciting. It's unlikely to shake the froth of your latte as you drive to work.
