As with just about the whole of the Skoda family the Fabia Estate represents a lot of car for it's pricetag. The Fabia is possibly the most understated of the Skoda range, but that doesn't detract from it's abilities, if anything it adds to them. Offering well sized, versatile motoring for small families nationwide the Fabia estate comes with the sort of price tag that will appeal to both city and country dwellers.

In truth, the Fabia doesn't particularly inspire to look at. The front grill seems to mumble rather than growl with the Skoda badge drooping down like a lazy eyelid, Walking down towards the back end the curves are all nice and the car looks as if it will move through the air nicely, but you're still thinking about the front end. Inside the car it's a different story, the cabin is nicely finished with reasonable quality materials used as standard and some touches of class which serve to please the driver. The front seats are nicely comfortable but the rear seats are a little too narrow for adults in a long journey. They're fine for kids though, or short journeys.

There are six engines to choose from three petrol and three diesel. The smaller petrol option is underpowered and needs constant work to get any level of performance from it. The whole range offer reasonable fuel returns with the petrol options giving back between 47 mpg and 37 mpg. However if you're looking for decent fuel returns top of the pile is the outstanding 1.4 TDi Greenline which weighs in with 68 mpg, although with 0 - 60 time of 12.5 seconds and a top end of 105 mph it's not going to win many races, it is powerful to take what is thrown at it and will leave you with money for food as well as fuel.

The handling is assured and cornering can be undertaken with confidence. The suspension is balanced to offer a good ride to the driver and passengers alike, softening the bumps out very effectively but retaining good road poise.

The Skoda Fabia Estate offers a bigger version of the hatchback model which is mostly equipped to cope with everything thrown at it. the entry level engine is too small but other than that drivers are going to get a great deal of motoring for their money. A lot of happy families with this car.
