The Peugeot Expert Tepee was developed jointly with sister company Citroen and Fiat, the Citroen Dispatch Combi and Fiat Scudo Panorama offer near identical vehicles, which bring van dimensions into the realm of the family car.  The Expert Tepee is based on the 2007 Expert van which means that it offers van style versatility with up to nine seats that fit in the flat floored cabin.  The Expert Tepee is will finished and comes with a good spec from the bottom up.

The Tepee really is van sized on the outside so don’t expect to be able to park it in your small garage, you’ll need good levels of room.  On the inside there is the choice of either six or nine seats, with the later using a longer wheel base chassis.  The front row offers one driver and them a two seater bench passenger seat.  You can relive the days playing for the school hockey team while being chauffered around in the Tepee.  There is the option of a single front passenger seat at no extra cost, but that surely spoils some of the fun?  Air conditioning is only standard on the higher specification, Leisure model, although both Comfort and Leisure models are fitted with electric windows.   The sliding rear doors are always welcome when looking to get out while parked in a tight spot.

Whether you choose a Tepee with two or three rows of seats the luggage space becomes vast with seats removed because you're turning it into a medium sized van. The second and third row seat are made up from a two-seat bench and an individual seat.  There’s other useful cabin storage, including an open compartment on top of the dashboard in front of the passenger, as well as overhead storage, and for customers opting the bench-style front passenger seat, there’s good under-seat storage.

There are two engine choices in the Tepee: a 90bhp 1.6 HDi or a 120bhp 2.0 HDi. The 1.6-litre engine is really too little for such a big vehicle.  It comes in cheaper but struggles with even the smallest load.  As a result it’s likely to suffer wear faster than the bigger unit.  The 1.6 can sprint to 60 mph in 18.5 seconds (did I say sprint?), and that is the small wheelbase, the longer version takes 19 seconds so pack a Tunnocks Caramel to keep the energy up.  Even that figure isn’t the slowest, as the big nine seater can't even beat 20 seconds, but lets drop the acceleration for the smaller model, it’s pretty slow throughout the range.  The 120bhp engine is far more comfortable driving anywhere, with best and worst acceleration times from 0-62mpg, ranging between 13.5 seconds to 14.7 seconds. Top speeds are 90mph for the 1.6 HDi and 99mph for the 2.0 HDi. Neither feel particularly brisk, but the 2.0 at least does't permanently feel out of it's depth.

The Big Expert Tepee is just that, big.  It's reasonably refined and with the right engine is a reasonable drive.  Getting the bigger engine makes a big difference to the cars abilities, and will make that difference either new or used.  Insist on FSH with the smaller model is buying used.
