207 CC offered the UK motorist it’s first chance to own a reasonably priced electronically-folding metal hard top roofed car.  Mercedes offered a model but it was considerably more expensive.  Peugeot can be accused of not taking the bull by the horns and making the CC a two seater which is a shame, as the back seats are really too small for anything but a place to keep your squash racket.

If the 207 CC had been made as a two seater it could have been made more purposefully.  The handling could be improved and the car be made to feel more dynamic.  Now that is not an accusation that the CC doesn’t drive well because it does, very well.   Sitting in the front seats you can’t help but notice the low down feel to them.  This gives a feeling of being in a sports car and brings a closeness with the road.  When on the road the driver is treated to light, accurate steering.  It is electronically assisted which does detract from the sense of feedback on offer but doesn’t eliminate it all.  The suspension is able to offer both poise and comfort, soaking up most of what the road try to assail you with, but doing so while keeping the car feeling light and nimble.  Controls are easy to use and logically positioned.  They feel well made for the most part, although the finish leaves something to be desired from time to time.

The engine options are reasonably simple; they’re all 1.6L, one diesel and two petrol options.  The petrol units are both 16 valve and offer two levels of tune, 120 bhp and 150 bhp.  The 0 – 60 times are 10.4 and 8.3 seconds, with top speeds similar at 129 and 129 mph.  the diesel weighs in with 10.6 seconds and 119mph as it’s vital stats, but is king of the hill on return with a very impressive 56 mpg over 43 and 39, with the THP (180 bhp), model the worst of the bunch (although still pretty respectable).  Both of the petrols are good to drive and offer nippy pace and performance.  The diesel looks faster o paper than it really feels ad offers little encouragement for it’s performance.  There is a lack of discernable grunt low down and it can feel somewhat lacklustre when picking up speed.  Cruises well though.

The 207 looks and feels like a sports car, which it isn’t.  This can make for a slightly disappointing time while behind the wheel, which is a shame as it’s a good runner.  If Peugeot offered a hotter engine they’d have great car the drove as well as it looks.
