The 1007 is a bit of a one trick pony, in that it’s got one really funky aspect, namely the sliding doors.  The rest of the 1007 is a little underwhelming as the engines offer a lacklustre performance from all but the biggest diesel unit and the chassis seems to bear more resembalance to a steam roller than a lithe sports car.

The internal finishing can be changed by replacing 17 parts of trim, which means that the punishing schedule of school runs and gym class, can be made to feel as new with ease and relatively little expense. The 1007 offers an intriguing use of space.  As the doors slide back you almost expect to see smoke and dry ice bellow out of this futuristic little car.  As you poke your head inside the car you can see that the space inside has been used very inventively.
The cabin offers good space up front but the back room isn’t quite so generous.  There’s room for two children, but adults will find anything but a short trip too cramped if, you have any need for bootspace.  If the boot is empty the rear seats can slide back to give more legroom which gives good versatility.  The rear seats also fold flat easily so carrying bigger items is easy as long as you don’t need the rear seats. All this versatility comes, unfortunately, at a price.  The price paid comes in the form of the cars weight.

Despite being a small car the 1007 is heavy and as a result doesn’t benefit from the nimble, lithe handling that many of it’s rivals offer.  It also means that most of the engines feel inadequate.  None of the petrol engines offer very much to the driver.  They barely make it past 100 mph as a top speed and have 0 – 60 times between 11.4 seconds and 16.1 seconds from the 1.4L Tronic gearbox.  Quite frankly the purpose of a clutchless transmission, with two steering wheel-mounted paddles, on a car that can barely go above 100 mph and has a 0 – 60 time that would have trouble outrunning a bus, is a mystery.  If anyone could advise I’m all ears.  The 1.6 HDi engine offers a bit more punch and usability but it’s still not going to run to many thrills. If you’re looking for excitement, you are unlikely to find it here.  Insurance groups are low, keeping costs down, and economy figures range from good to excellent.  The worst is 42 mpg and the best 60 mpg.  The 1.6HDi SE comes in with 58 mpg which is the best balance.  The 1.4 HDi is the best but is also the slowest with a top speed of 99 mph.

All round the 1007 fulfils a role and could be the right car for you.  It’s got the sort of performance that a pensioner will find perfect and as long as you don’t want to take people and luggage it can perform very well.  Still like those door though.
