The X5 was launched in 2000 to muscle in on the luxury 4X4 market. It offers a more nimble unit than many of it's peers with the 4.8 offering a sub 6 seconds 0-60.
It does offer a decent fuel consumption level too with 32 mpg achievable in everyday driving.
At it's launch in 2000, X5 set the standard in handling for performance off-roaders and it still offers one of the best SUV drives around today. It delivers comfort, precision, minimal bodyroll and even off-road competence. With quick and responses on the motorway and lightness and agility around town the X5 offers a pleasurable ride in almost all everyday driving conditions.
Not as big as the Touareg or Range Rover but with good use of space, made more accessible by a split tailgate to make what they do have work extremely well.
The X5 clearly performs very well on the road when compared to it's rivals but if it's good road performance and large storage space you're looking for why not just buy an estate car?
