With the Streetka Ford offers drivers the chance of a cheeky two seater that’s cheap to buy and offers lots of fun per pound. They have most of the car right but not quite everything and one can’t help feeling a sense of disappointment.
The Streetka looks funky and compact. The shape is like the KA’s more sophisticated, older sibling. And with the roof down there’s not much that looks better. Climbing into the Streetka you can’t help thinking is this it? The finish looks like it’s been rushed, with ah view to spending as little as possible. The plastics used look and feel cheap and the seats are flimsy. This doesn’t detract too much from the drive though; such is the level of entertainment on offer.
The engine options are very much the same as colour choice on the Model T Ford (any colour as long as it’s black). There is one option, the 1.6L petrol unit, which is lively enough in town and on the open road but does quickly feel out of it’s depth on the motorway. The top speed on offer is 107 mph and 60 mph comes up in 11.7 seconds so nothing to shout about. Behind the wheel it does feel more lively than that, although not if you’re at the lights next to an Audi TT.
The boot space is impressive for such a small car with a fold down roof, although this is largely down to the lack of any back seats. Designing the Streetka as a two seater was a stroke of genius and bravery from ford, as I makes it better suited to it’s purpose but potentially less commercially viable as an alleged four seater.
The Streetka is perfect for someone who wants a bit of fun and style form their driving but without the ability to speed like Ayrton Senna. Speed merchants will feel let down.
