With the exception of the M3 the coupe gets the best engines of the whole 3-Series range. The 1999 model set out to place that line in the sand that BMW had the small executive car to beat. The 320 model offered the best mix of performance and price. The 325i and 330i models both came with great engines offering good levels of performance, but if you're looking for fuel economy the diesel units are the best to go for.

The usual set up of 50/50 balance gives the 3-Series a great natural feel on the road and the steering is sufficiently assisted to make slow driving and parking easy, while returning great feedback at speed.

This generation of 3-Series Coupe make more sense of the size of car than any previous models did. They are an engaging drive and come with a great selection of engine options. There are plenty of them still on the road and if you keep your eyes open you can pick up bargains here and there. The rear wheel drive Bavarian can still kick you up the arse if you don't treat it with respect.
