Lets cut straight to the point here just because it's an estate the BMW M5 Touring isn't really a family car in the same way Tom Goode used his Volvo. Totally derestricted it will top out at 207 mph but comes out of the showroom clipped down to 155 mph. The understanding BMW mechanics can release another 35 mph for your consumption if that is a bit sluggish for you.
The M5 Touring looks quite understated. Only the alloy wheels and double, twin pipes really warning fellow motorists of the capability of this car. The interior of the M5 is one that boasts space age equipment and seating. The front seats offer an extensive system of electronic adjustment and feature active seats. These clamp your torso when you click the seat belt and offer additional lateral support under cornering. This is likely to be reserved to times when you're not taking rear passengers as they don't benefit from this facility. The rear seats offer exceptional levels of comfort and room for legs and head.
Under your right foot in standard driving mode you'll have the power of 400 bhp, which is ample for almost any driver. The M5 has a ‘power' button which when pressed unleashes another 107 horses to the party. The performance of the M5 will give Ferrari drivers doubt about their ability to go past you without your consent. There are virtually no instances where the M5 will be found wanting. The delivery of power is smooth and endlessly strong. Press the power button if you feel the need to spice things up but they're more than ample in normal mode. The chances are you won't have your dog in the back of the car, but sailing past Porches on the Autobahn with Rover in the back will make you smile while on trans-Europe journeys.
BMW only make rear wheel drive cars and are famous for their even weight distribution, the M5 is no exception. The car is set up to offer the ideal platform to deploy the power of the engine. The suspension also manages the perfect balance between comfort and grip. It holds the road like a liquid, absorbing the bumps with ease yet always remaining in perfect contact. It feels heavy, yet nimble, with the weight all concentrated on the wheels and their grip of the road.
The M5 Touring is more of a reward than a car and will only be owned by people with deep pockets. It's a car that you won't see on the road very often but when you do see one the driver is bound to look very pleased with themselves.
